Why The Safe2Race AMS System?

The Safe2Race AMS System improves circuit safety and race control decisions by allowing one individual to oversee and control the entire race circuit. Furthermore, the Safe2Race AMS System’s revolutionary automated proximity flagging means that approaching vehicles are notified of incidents instantaneously and without human interaction, cutting down incident flagging response time to zero.

The Safe2Race AMS System’s GNSS high precision timing does not require any timing markers or loops to be embedded into the track, meaning no modifications to the track are required.

Product Benefits

The Safe2Race AMS System uses its revolutionary localised radio network to transmit safety, tracking and timing information to race control and other vehicles in real time. All competition and circuit support vehicles are fitted with a small Safe2Race AMS System unit. The unit notifies race control with the vehicle location, G-force, orientation and accident type. Approaching vehicles’ units display automatic proximity flagging using their driver/rider interface.

The Safe2Race AMS System Unit

The Safe2Race AMS System has been developed to be integrated within a number of display options for use across different sports and vehicles. It can be integrated within existing Motorsport display options or as a stand alone display unit.

The Safe2Race AMS System unit transmits radio messages to race control and other competition and support vehicles, allowing safety information to be processed in real-time. As well as reporting to race control , the Safe2Race AMS System unit creates internal logs of second-by-second data including, time, location, speed, bearing, g-forces, safety status, communication logs and more.

These logs are recoverable via USB for accident analysis, penalty judgement and investigative purposes.

• In-vehicle safety notification via high intensity LEDs, OLED panel and/or audible earpiece.
• Internal logging for accident analysis, penalty judgements and forensic investigations.
• Proximity warnings to incidents.

Safe2Race AMS Base Station

• Sends data to race control via radio.
• Receives positional updates for the in-car unit at 10Hz.
• Receives and transmits data to the in-car AMS System units.
• Displays race control interface.

Safe2Race AMS System – Unit Display Functions

The Remote Display

A small OLED display, most suitable for use on bikes and smaller vehicles. Full screen and only displays flag colours and titles when a flag is active.

The OLED Display

Integrated within the Aim MXP dash display. With CAN output the AMS can send flags and alerts direct to the vehicle display. Most suitable for use in cars. Full screen display shows flag colour and title.

The Mychron 5 Display

Integrated within the Aim Mychron 5 display. Most suitable for use in karts or on small bikes. The shift lights double up as a LED bar display showing flag colours as flashing LEDs.

*These are examples of the display options available for the system. Various alternative display options are also available including simple LED bar only displays.

Safe2Race AMS System Overview

The Safe2Race AMS System allows communication directly between every vehicle to give officials instant real time information. The system has been designed to automate warnings to the competitor (and anyone else who has the system fitted) relating to any incident.

EXAMPLE SCENARIO:

1. A competitor stops or has an impact whilst within the pre-defined ‘hot-zone’.
2. The Safe2Race AMS System’s algorithms will detect this and automatically show on the dash display a Yellow Flag to any competitors within a pre-defined time or distance behind the stricken vehicle.
3. Once a competitor has passed the slowed vehicle, a Green Flag will automatically be displayed on the dash, providing there are no other obstructions in range within the ‘hot-zone’.

The system has been designed to be automated, but it should be recognised that this is an addition to existing safety personnel; is an advisory system rather than a control system. Warnings and alerts can be overridden by Race Control as required.

As seen in the left image above, the AMS System unit is fitted in the driver’s view in a competition vehicle. Te right image shows the AMS System is flashing amber to notify the driver that there is a hazard ahead.

Benefits of Real-Time Vehicle Status Awareness

  • Real-Time vehicle tracking of all vehicles fitted with the AMS System
  • Millisecond Timing, including splits and sectors as required.
  • Alerts when a vehicle has been involved in an impact, the exact location and timing using advanced algorithms.
  • Algorithms have the ability to report the type of impact and likely injuries
  • Any change in a vehicle’s speed or direction of travel seen as abnormal will flag an alert to competitors and officials

Automated Flagging Functionality

Flags can be generated by artificial intelligence or race control, race control can then alter or cancel flag conditions. Flag conditions, updates and cancellation of flags are instantly displayed via Safe2Race AMS’s  in-vehicle hardware to notify drivers. Race control displays are used to verify flags and where they are applicable.

The Safe2Race AMS system features an automated flagging system to assist race marshals, the key features of this are:

  • All flags are instantly displayed on display hardware installed within vehicles.
  • Flags are either generated automatically via AI decisions or manually via race control.
  • Flags can be cancelled by being overridden by race control at any point during a race.
  • Race control displays are used to confirm when required flags have been transmitted and display which competitors they are
  • applicable to.
  • Confirmation of flag compliance and non-compliance is displayed to race control.
  • Any flag infringements are logged by the system for post-race analysis.
