Insight Scenarios

Safe2Race AMS Integrated Helmet Sensor Technology

Impact Detection and Signalling

Helmet sensor technology detects when a force is transferred within a helmet that has been subject to an external impact. The sensor measured and records the impact magnitude and the force transfer to the wearer, as well as the time and location of impact. This automatically triggers a call to be made via the system.

Brain Rotation Insight

Developed alongside leading research, the sensor can identify the rotational motion that can be transferred to the brain during a collision. This helps to highlight the likelihood of a concussion or Mild Traumatic Brain Injuries (MTBIs) by paramedics or medical staff.

Helmet Condition Monitoring

Not only can large impacts cause a helmet to be less effective in the future, but repeated smaller impacts can have similar detrimental effects on a helmets protective properties. This is not typically noticed by the wearer, the sensor however will monitor the integrity of a helmet over time and provides alerts when it predicts deterioration below a pre-set threshold.

Collision Data Reports

The sensor technology is able to record and analyse impact parameters such as direction, force and rotational acceleration in order to provide first responders (e.g. paramedics) with detailed information about the wearer’s likely brain injuries following a collision. This additional information can support faster and more reliable care pathway decisions, especially where there are multiple crash victims.

Protected Electronics

Sensors are sealed for life, fully waterproof and protected against the effects of dust and moisture. Cased in patented proprietary materials that ensure the electronics survive all typical impact conditions to provide valuable insights after the event.

Helmet Sensor App Interface

The AMS System Helmet Sensor integrates with the system as well as a mobile app which offers a range of different user permissions.

The app can be used by marshals and race control as well as drivers and teams to view updates and various levels of helmet sensor information dependant on the permission levels granted.
